Beth Orton’s song “Magpie” serves as the opening track to her first album in six years, Sugaring Season. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Orton said the lithe acoustic number was inspired by birds gathering outside her bedroom window and following her throughout the day.
“These birds hold wisdom for me,” Orton explained.” “They are also oblivious to the fear they raise in others. All the time people are inventing stories to justify actions that often have no bearing on reality. I have experienced being silenced and this song came out of that. It was my way of keeping my voice and a sense of freedom alive.” Stream it now at RollingStone.com.
Sugaring Season hits stores on October 2nd via ANTI- Records. ICYMI, be sure to check out the previously-released “Something more Beautiful”.
