Beth Orton – Words and Music

by Claudia Marshall WUFV.ORG

Beth Orton is one of those rare artists who’s had a genre coined entirely for her.  Labeled “Folktronica” back in the mid-90’s, Beth has moved away from dark beats and into a literary folk that shimmers around her low-key alto. Her gorgeous new album, Sugaring Season, was produced by Tucker Martine, and after a 6-year wait, it’s due out next Tuesday. You can hear solo, acoustic versions of a few of the songs in our Studio A session with Beth below, and also take a First Listen to the entire album.
