This was the first gig of Beth’s UK tour to promote her first album in 6 years. Earlier in the week it announced that Sam Amidon would not be doing the support for the UK tour. We were kept entertained by Trevor Moss and Hannah-Lou who were the support tonight and jolly good they were too!
Beth was in good voice – sounding extremely strong and powerful. We were treated to reditions of all but two songs from her new album, the standout track being ‘Something More Beautiful’ – the live version a beautiful but different take from the album.
Sam, although not supporting, did join Beth on stage to provide backing guitar, vocals and violin. Introduced as Barry from Norway, Beth asked him to tell a story while she tuned her guitar – after a few moments of thought ‘we had a nice dinner’ he said drily.
‘Thank you Sheffield – I think’ said Beth as she left the stage. The Leamington crowd were very quiet tonight with one punter telling her afterwards that they were being respectful. Beth came back on to play a 3 song encore – the encouragement from the crowd to do so was the most vocal they were tonight and it was noted – ‘So you are here! In Itatly they were a lot more in there I guess it is because you are seated!
